Post 7-Audio production for animation

Image
There are several pieces of audio production that have to be used to create a stop motion animation, which are created by all different sound artists. There are 4 different parts to the sound process; musical score, sound effects, characters dialog and voice over. Musical score These are written by one or maybe more composers, with guidance from the director or producer, and performed by an ensemble of musicians. The sound department work with the footage and script in this process, as they have to both watch the footage back and read through the script, to decide what music will suit best in particular scenes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_score Sound effects  A sound effect is a sound recorded and presented in a specific way to give off a certain impression to the audience without the use of music or dialog. The sound department work with the footage, as when watching it, they have to improvise using an tool or instrument they have in their studio, and make it match the

Post 11-History of the development of Animation

Magic Lantern The magic lantern was mostly developed in the 17th century, and used for entertainment purposes. It is an early development of a projector, displaying pictures onto transparent plates using one or more lenses and a light source. It was widely used from the 18th century to the mid 20th century, when the slide projector took over.  (En.wikipedia.org, 2019) Christiaan Huygens Was a Dutch scientist that invented the magic lantern. It consists of a source of light, a lantern slide and projection lens, in that particular order. The later magic lantern contains more components (Luikerwaal.com, 2019). Christiaan is a pioneer, as he is the only inventor to use a projection lens, whereas the others is use mirrors and a drum.     Christiaan's magic lantern Phenakistiscope This was the first widespread animation device that created a vivid illusion of movement. It works life a GIF animamtion, as it can only show a short continuous loop. It was invented around Dec

Post 10-Types of stop motion animation

Image
There are many types of stop motion animations, that are used for all different purposes. Claymation  Firstly, there is claymation. This is one of the most commonly know types of stop motion, along with puppet animation. It uses figures made out of clay, to create the characters for the stop motion. An example of this, is the movie 'Wallace and Gromit the cures of the were-rabbit', which uses clay animation to create its characters. Compared to the tv show 'Robot chicken' which also uses clay animation to produce it. Although, these two examples use clay animation, they are both quite different from each other. In Wallace and Gromit, you can clearly see that the characters are made out of some sort of sculpting material. Whereas, in Robot chicken, the characters look more realistic.  (Animation Courses, 2019)  Claymation is usually used for when you want your models to shapeshift and turn into different objects. An example of this, is 'Food' by Jan Svankmaj

Post 10-Uses and Audiences

Image
Stop motion animation have many different uses. Some examples include, feature films, advertising, TV and music videos. Stop motion animations are used for feature films, as they provide entertainment for the audience. There are many examples of stop motion films, including Paranorman and Shaun the Sheep. These are both polar opposite stop motions, and attract very different audiences  Paranorman is a dark, fantasy, horror themed stop motion. It is reviewed to be shown to children age 10 and over, due to all the ghosts, language and mild sexual references. Due to the use of the ghost and zombie puppets used, it shows that it is no longer suitable for younger children, as it would scare them. The sounds used in Paranorman is another reason in which it wouldn't be suitable for children. As it has to correspond with the genre/theme of the movie, which means lots of loud scary noises, that can be unsettling for them. Shaun the sheep however, is a lighthearted, family movie t

Post 5-Model making techniques

Image
Model making in stop motion animation is extremely important, as this creates the majority of the animation (puppets, characters, sets etc). For example, when making your characters, you have the option to be able to remove the mouth part of your characters and make several different mouth movements, which is considered the quicker, more efficient way. Or, the alternative option which is to create a fixed mouth on a head, and create several different heads, with different mouth movements fixed onto it.  These sketches are the original drawings from Tim Burton before the nightmare before Christmas was even made. They give both us and the animators a clear visual of what Burton wanted his characters to look like, which is very useful, as it meant that they didn't have to come up with an appearance for every individual character.  These pictures are from the final storyboards of the nightmare before christmas. Which as you can see are in a lot of detail, which make

Post 9-Purpose of stop motion animations

Stop motion animation can be used for many different purposes ranging from education to entertainment. Education Stop motion animation benefits in education, as it allows not just students, but anyone to be able to learn through the video. It instantly makes the video more interesting and eye catching towards viewers, and people are more likely to learn from this technique. Another use of stop motion for education is to assign stop motion projects. This will enable the students to not only work together in a group, but it will also help them remember the topic better, as it is a creative way to learn, rather than just copying notes. For example, in this video, Symbiosis is being explained to its viewers, via stop motion animation, which should be more interesting for them and help them remember it better. (Company, 2019) Entertain  Entertainment is also a huge purpose for stop motion animation. This is because many people enjoy watching them as a form of entertainment. For exam
